Geunjeongjeon

The Geunjeongjeon is a building in the middle of the Kyungbok Palace. It was used as a venue for the important affairs of the Joseon king and significant national events, such as receiving foreign envoys or court officials offering New Year’s greetings to the monarch. Among these events, the king’s coronation ceremony was one of the main functions of Gyeongbokgung Palace.

It conceptually interacts with the surrounding architectural elements, such as square windows, pillars, and arch gates. Although the exterior pattern design harmonizes with the nature of seasons, I set this project in a monotone to clarify the discovered forms and interactions.
