Design System

When one scrum team plans and builds the web/app design for end users, I see another team in our organization serving the same users with a different UX, and another team building it from scratch. Why don't we communicate, share assets, and think as one organization? Design System is where you answer the questions.

Isn't It a Style Guide?

Extending the brand identity to the digital solution, I used to spread the style guide with typography, color, and iconography. These were set and organized like the InDesign visual assets & styles so that all designers using the tool have a direct reference.

Although it complies with the overall brand, it is insufficient in the dev process, where designers and developers continue refining the style guide. I've seen many style guides unintentionally delay the release goal for this reason. But why?
