Grafting is a design strategy that draws together dissimilar parts in the hopes of reconciling a novel and expanded field of meaning. Grafting utilizes a particular research method and mapping exorcise, and 'tests' hybridized forms by intersecting two or more discourse; a discourse may be as small as a self-contained narrative text; or it may be as large as a knowledge domain, a bounded realm of knowledge from which to mine and manipulate relevant, coherent forms and structures.
